NEW HAVEN RUGBY Spring 2009 results NEW HAVEN RUGBY

| Mystic River RFC | Boston, MA

The New Haven Old Black traveled to Boston to kick off their 09 campaign against Division 1 rivals Mystic River. Two hard-fought 30-minute periods ended in a draw for the two evenly matched sides.

| Danbury RFC | Danbury, CT

New Haven made the short trip to Danbury intent on avenging last August's disappointing loss to the scrappy DIII side. The Old Black's determined efforts and superior skills carried them to a resounding 41-5 victory.

| Jersey Shore RFC | Galloway, NJ

A cold, soggy day on the Jersey shore saw the visiting New Haven side follow up a strong first half performance with a thoroughly lack-luster second period, nearly blowing their lead with ill-disciplined, sloppy rugby against an aggressive opponent. While clearly the stronger side on the day, the Old Black's 29-17 victory was much closer than they would have liked.

| Irish Cultural Center | Canton, MA

Following their less then stellar outing against Jersey Shore, New Haven headed into what was sure to be a hard match against perennial rivals Boston Irish Wolfhounds with something to prove to themselves. A strong performance in difficult conditions saw the Old Black decisively overcome their hosts 22-3 - New Haven's first road win over BIW in recent memory.

| Hartford RFC | Glastonbury, CT

Horrid conditions (made tolerable only by a lovely, well-drained pitch) saw New Haven cruise to a confident 46-5 win over their neighbors and rivals, Hartford Wanderers.

| The Boulevard | New Haven

Sunny skies and an enthusiastic home crowd saw New Haven cruise to a 40-5 win over a large Long Island side. While discipline was lacking at times, the overall effort was a solid and satisfying warm-up to the following week's all-important knock-out match.

| Reagan Airport | Arlington, VA

A thrilling three-try surge pushes New Haven past Nova 20-18 (having trailed 3-15 after 68 minutes), punching the Old Black's ticket for the Sweet Sixteen.

| Sweet 16 | Columbia, SC

The Old Black's championship dreams come to a bitter end at the hands of a powerful Pearl City side, 43-0. Guts and determination made the game significantly closer than the score-line would suggest, but Pearl City's rock-solid defense and counter-attacks off of seemingly every New Haven miscue carried the day. The consolation game against Media RFC does not bear mentioning.
