NEW HAVEN RUGBY Maryland Exiles, March 11 NEW HAVEN RUGBY

Another trip down south for the boys and we still are no where close to Ft. Lauderdale.....I need to talk with Burt. Needless to say the Cap with a deviated septum (now a confirmed snoring problem thanks to some video tape obtained from an unknown source) and the flanker with ADD were once again late. Add on the van debacle (we had to return the red one that Tommy picked out) and once again we were scurrying to the game. Thankfully our possible first round playoff opponents were kind enough to push the game out about a half hour.

As noted the game featured two D1 Playoff teams who as luck would have it are meeting in a couple of weeks in New Haven. Unfortunately for the Exiles there has been a tragedy in their family that kept a number of starters out of the game. Our deepest sympathy's go out to their team.

Once the game started the home town team looked like a playoff team making life rough for New Haven early. A big pack and a #12 with some moves helped the Exiles keep New Haven on their back foot for the first ten minutes. Unfortunately for the Exiles Ewan did not feel much sympathy for them and much like last week put the team on his back and scored two early tries off of turnovers....which were numerous throughout. Somewhat luckily for us the ref on the day decided that knock on were really not infractions but more like inconveniences which enabled us to put one more try in the corner off of some great ball movement from two guys who think passing is only to be done at gunpoint (Jason and Vic) and a turn back the clock run from scrummy turned wing Mr. Cotter.

The second half opened with a flare with a great #8 to #12 pick off the scrum with the cap bursting through a huge hole and putting a streaking #5 ...I mean Leo down the sideline for a beautiful try. Moments later the same #8 decided enough of this giving the ball away and broke free for a near try before it culminated with a beautiful switch with the aforementioned Gabe Kapler.

For about 15 minutes in the first half to the end of the game the team decided it was better off just kind of being there. Dropped balls were looked at, tackles were more like late night hugs from RGT and general sloppy play marred the field. Luckily a big lead kept coach happy and the local talent near UM put a smile back on everyone's face after the game.

The post game was not much to talk about. I think the other team showed up...well there were a couple of guys there. The food...oh there was no food, but there was beer. Good combination considering we had a game again the next day. Highlights of the night included but not limited to:
    Lou doing the walker
Coach making sure Benny would feel no pain
Workout girl who could crush your head with her thighs
Having a bed to myself, but then it was completely ruined when I realized my roommate sleeps naked...On to Doylestown
Tries
3 for Ewan
2 for Rod
1 for Leo

Score 41-15

Man of the match - Who else - Ewan
