W 39 - 7 New Haven A-Side vs CT Yankees

A-Side

On yet another hot and humid Saturday at the Boulevard, the Old Black took on the CT Yankees. New Haven was looking to break its tough three game losing streak, while the Yankees were seeking their first victory of the season.

The first 10 minutes of the match found both clubs feeling each other out. The Old Black were the first to strike when Pete Pereira took the ball off the back of a ruck into the try zone. Rob Kestle converted the try and New Haven led 7-0.

The Yankees found themselves in their own territory for most of the first half thanks to some great pressure from the Old Black defense. At 25 minutes, Pablo Perez blocked a Yankee clearing kick. Perez scooped up the ball and offloaded it to Nick Cagginello, who rumbled into the try zone for the score.  Kestle missed the conversion and New Haven increased its lead to 12-0.

Minutes after a Kestle penalty goal, Sam Jack beat three Yankee defenders with some great ball fakes and scored the try. The conversion was no good and the Old Black was now up 20-0. The half finished on a great note when Pablo Perez bird dogged a CT Yankee pass and took the ball 40 meters for the try. Kestle hit the conversion and New haven went into the half up 27-0.

The second half was more of the same. The Old Black quickly put away any chance for a Yankee comeback. Tries within the first 10 minutes from Matt Piccirillo and Leo Connors put the Old Black up 39-0. New Haven continued its great defensive play for the reamainder of the half and only conceeded one Yankee try. The final count was 39-5. Man of the match: Brian Ries
